Known for their melting pot style, Dahka Band succeeds with flair in the delicate challenge of blending. With its New York cosmopolitanism, the group covers a wide spectrum, combining electric guitar, African percussions and Latin sounds to bring its audience on an exciting tour of world music.
This young group is undeniably among North America’s rising world music stars. Its artists draw inspiration from the cultural heritages of Algeria, Nigeria and Turkey, offering a joyful and authentic musical style elegantly adorned by lyrics in Arabic, Berber, English and Yoruba.
Making its first visit to Montreal, Dahka Band promises the Orientalys audience a show that is fresh and free of censorship or taboos, unconstrained by the “musically correct.” Dahka in Arabic, or laughing in English, means reinventing boundaries, bringing continents closer together and juggling beats and identities, unhindered by scruples or limits.
